EXCLUSIVE: The Code Change That Was Needed To Increase Facebook Friends Limit

Today Michael Arrington announced that Facebook lifted their 5000 friends limit. As a tech blogger, I bring you the “behind the scenes” view: the code change that was needed to be done to increase this limit:

For the non techies:

Shocking. :-)

now i can rest, i don’t have to worry :)

You, Pulver and Scoble :-)

wow. if they’d only told me. I coulda done that for them, and long ago.

Only 50,000?! :)

Eran - that way people will have what to blog about when Scoble & Pulver reach 49900… :-)

This just shows the simplicity of expansion and ways to get more people to talk about it.

I wonder why they would even want to put a limit in the first place? Unless they are thinking of connection by 6th degree, even than this limit would not allow all the possible connections. I think they never thought MAX limit would be ever reached.

CGC - I think that your last assumption (they never thought this limit will be reached) is the right one.
